Sandra Knapp, MS, LPC, LPCS
I am the founder of Mind Matters Therapy Services, LLC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in Hilton Head, South Carolina and am qualified with a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology. Much of my career and training has been focused on working with trauma and addiction. After years of working for a non-profit agency where I provided trauma-focused therapy services, forensic interviews, and community education, I opened the doors to my private practice, Mind Matters Therapy Services, in the Spring of 2017. In addition to therapeutic work, I have served as the Clinical Director of an industry leader substance use residential and outpatient treatment centers. I am also a Psychology Instructor at a local University and am focused on providing supervision and training for new clinicians obtaining their licensure in the state of South Carolina. I embrace the opportunity to work with different individuals and share my passion by providing therapy and guidance to members of the Lowcountry.
I specialize in mental health issues including trauma, substance use, anxiety and various other diagnoses. I provide traditional in-office research-supported treatment to address problems and help clients to quickly find relief. Specifically, I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Post Induction Therapy (PIT) approaches while also including training in Mindfulness-Based strategies and Solution-Focused techniques. In addition to individual sessions, I incorporate Hemi-Sync® technology to help clients experience enhanced mental, physical, and emotional states. I also provide Walk & Talk therapy which is talk therapy conducted outdoors while walking! Cognitive Therapy is supported by research as an effective treatment for post-traumatic stress, addictions, anxiety and many other mental health diagnoses. There is much evidence that validates the importance of exercise in reducing mental health symptoms. Walk & Talk therapy sessions combine both with the focus of getting clients feeling better faster!
Regardless of the setting, we will collaborate to understand how your background, belief system, and personality impact your abilities to operate and succeed in your environment. Together we will eliminate any mental, emotional, and physical obstacles or barriers in reaching your goals.
Whether you have been in therapy for years or have never attended a single session, I can help. My clients are motivated and excited to change. They want to see the best version of themselves and are willing to put in the hard work to achieve that. My clients don’t come to therapy to “chit chat” they come to learn new skills and to improve their lives.
